Cook turned bike thief held, 15 bikes recovered

Police said Mallela Shiva Kumar was involved in 15 bike thefts in the last two years.

Hyderabad: A 38-year-old cook turned vehicle thief was arrested by Rachakonda police at Chaitanyapuri on Tuesday. Police said Mallela Shiva Kumar was involved in 15 bike thefts in the last two years.

Shiva Kumar was a resident of Gunti Jangaiah colony in LB Nagar and was working as a cook. He started stealing vehicles two years ago. He usually targets bikes parked in crowded areas and at public places like bus stations, shopping malls and hotels. On Tuesday, while checking vehicles, police found Shiva Kumar moving suspiciously on a bike. Police apprehended him and brought him to the station.

During questioning, he admitted that he had stolen bikes. Police found that he was involved in similar cases across Rachakonda Commission-erate limits.
“He was involved in six cases in Chaitanyapuri, eight cases in Saroornagar and one in Adibatla police station limits,” LB Nagar DCP M. Venkateswar Rao said. Police arrested Shiva Kumar and recovered 15  bikes from him worth around '15 lakh. He was remanded to judicial custody.
