Nellore: In a bid to facilitate greater appreciation and understanding of science among the people, Nellore municipal corporation (NMC) has stepped forward to set up soon a science park with the state-of-the-art facilities in the heart of the city at Magunta Layout, close to D-Mart.

An array of science gadgets in an aesthetically designed environment will foster a culture of innovation among the public, especially children.

Disclosing this, Commissioner K. Dinesh Kumar, said “Science parks are envisioned to spark curiosity, natural creativity and build confidence.  Science parks as a concept are established to create an encouraging atmosphere of learning and inquisitiveness. The concept of a science park together with the idea of recreation and experiential learning provokes interest in all age groups, introducing them to the world of science” he said.

Kumar informed that the District Collector & Special Officer of NMC, K.V.N. Chakradhar Babu has resolved to take up the proposal to develop a science park at Magunta Layout. The main components would include a Science Park, Astronomy Zone with Digital Planetarium, Amphi Theatre, Mathes Zone, Indoor Exhibit, Traffic Zone, Energy Zone, Sensory Facilitation area, Heritage Park, Glow Park and Engineering and Material Science.

Funds for the project are being pooled from Nellore Smart City Corporation Limited, Department of Science and Technology, Finance Commission, Department of Science and Technology, CSR and Municipal General Funds.

According to the Commissioner, the park would help popularise science and develop scientific temper amongst the people in the state. In addition to this, parks, in general, provide space for social inclusiveness, leisure space for all age groups with diverse recreational activities.

The themes in the park would focus on managing climate change impact by providing exhibits on shade and cooling, storm water management, urban heat abatement and reduction of air and noise pollution.

Park is an integral part of society. It acts as an urban open space/Lung space providing a space for a social activity or a get-together area. The education system has advanced with students getting everything in touch of the mouse in this loT era. Facilities for practical education, which provide good understanding, are much limited to students.

Keeping these in view, the NMC has come up with this ambitious project, which would turn a major landmark in the city, added the Commissioner.
