Drunk actor in BMW hits police vehicle, let out on bail
The actor's spouse was also in the car at the time of the accident.
Chennai: Actor Arun Vijay rammed his BMW car into a police van parked in front of Nungambakkam police station, while he was driving in an inebriated condition, during the small hours on Saturday. No one was injured.
The actor was returning to his Ekattuthangal residence after attending a Sangeeth ceremony of veteran actress Radhika Sarathkumar’s daughter Rayane in a luxury hotel at Nungambakkam, around 3.15 am.
While passing by Nungambakkam police station, the actor lost control of the vehicle which rammed into a stationary police van parked in front of the station. Both vehicles were damaged.
The actor’s spouse was also in the car at the time of the accident. Subsequently, police found that Arun Vijay was drunk. Pondy Bazaar traffic investigation was alerted. The actor was tested for his blood-alcohol-level (BAC) and results confirmed that he was under influence of liquor at the time of accident.
He was subsequently charged under two sections 185 of Motor Vehicles Act and 279 of IPC. The car was seized. The actor’s father, Vijayakumar, rushed to the police station. The police carried out the formalities. The actor was later let-off since both the provisions invoked were bailable.
