Chennai: An alleged inappropriate relationship between two women police personnel working in police training college in Ashok Nagar led to the husband of one of them, a constable, trying to kill himself by consuming poison on Sunday night.
Police sources said constable Arivazhagan, 35, tried to kill himself by consuming pesticide after he was assaulted by the woman sub-inspector when he reportedly questioned her relationship with his wife.
All the three work in police training college. Sources said Arivazhagan was furious because the relationship of his wife, a sub inspector, with the other SI, was threatening his marriage. Arivazhagan in his statement told senior police officers that both women sub-inspectors belonged to same batch and were ‘close’ friends. Other police personnel in the station had even teased their relationship. He also alleged that the woman SI had asked his wife to divorce him.
“When he questioned the relationship, the woman SI became furious and assaulted him with her footwear. Unable to handle the embarrassment he tried to kill himself by consuming pesticide at home,” sources said. He was admitted to KMC and is recovering.
