Khammam: The district medical and health officer A. Kondal Rao cracked whip on private health facilities in Khammam and sealed Sigma Hospital for failing to produce licences.

A team led by Mr Kondal Rao inspected Arokya, Abhaya, New Life, Tejaswi, Sigma and Ananya hospitals and inspected the infrastructure and facilities in them. They also examined the treatment being given to dengue and other patients.

The laboratory at the Ananya Hospital was also sealed for flouting rules.
Records of two blood banks, Siva Blood Bank and Doctors Voluntary Blood Bank, have also been seized.

The DM&HO said that he wrote to the drug controller to cancel the licences of the blood banks as they have been violating the rules. On receiving orders from the higher officials, the DM&HO raided the hospitals and took stock of the situation.

Many of these hospitals were being run without any ethics in treatment and just to earn profits. It was  reported that recently, two patients suffering from dengue died after the victims got treated at these hospitals.

The state government is determined to break the nexus between registered medical practitioners and private hospitals in cheating the patients and asked health officials to check violation of norms.
