NSS volunteers gift Chevayoor Government Dermatology Hospital a new look
The cleaning drive was conducted as part of Dhurya 2016'- a mega leadership camp.
KOZHIKODE: Kuthiravattam Government Mental Health Centre and Government Dermatology Hospital, Chevayoor got a new look on Sunday, thanks to the cleaning drive conducted by NSS volunteers from the district. They cleaned the premises and painted the walls of entrances and hospital wards. The cleaning drive was conducted as part of ‘Dhurya 2016’- a mega leadership camp, organised for NSS volunteers from JDT Islam College of Arts & Science, Calicut University.
Over 200 participants in the camp and other volunteers, were actively involved in the drive conducted in both hospitals under the NSS District Coordination Committee led by Dr Baby Sheeba. Speaking to DC, Leadership camp Convener Ajesh A said that the idea of cleaning the hospital evoked a positive response from the participants. “During the first two days of the camp, the students were given training in leadership skills and then we took them out for the cleaning drive in order to give them an opportunity to use those skills. The students were so excited and wholeheartedly participated in the programme,” he said. Ajesh added that they were planning to conduct a year-long programme at Dermatology Hospital.
“The NSS and similar voluntary organisations are already conducting many programmes at Kuthiravattam. However the Dermatology Hospital needed more attention and that’s why we thought of continuing the painting and other activities here,” he added. “We were able to convert an abandoned hall dumped with waste at Kuthiravattam into a beautiful auditorium that can be used for functions,” said Muhammed C.H, Farook College NSS secretary who took part in the drive. “We were able to clean the ground and paint the operation theater building and ward opposite. We are hoping to extend the drive to other blocks in the days to come.” added Shahihshah P, NSS secretary of JDT Islam Arts and Science College.
