KOZHIKODE: The bright students who secured A plus in all subjects were failing to spell the words properly and construct new sentences, and the parents were worried what could have gone wrong. Realising the problem of the new-gen a comprehensive health and education programme was envisioned in Chemanchery panchayat, and the classes will officially begin on January 1. Retired college and school teachers who are residents of the village will offer classes for free, said former panchayat president Madanchery Sathyanathan, who initiated the project.

As a first step, they conducted a survey and parents responded positively. “Thirty-two students have now registered for the classes, and on every holiday, two subjects will be taught. The stress is given on Malayalam, Hindi, English and mathematics. The classes have been titled Nattupaadam and students from Class 8 and 9 are free to attend,” said Mr Sathyanathan. T.V. Sathyan (mathematics), Aboobacker Kappad (English), U.K. Raghavan (Malayalam) and U. Geetha (Hindi) are offering classes. Apart from the academic lessons, students will also get training in personality development and physical fitness.
