Hyderabad: A two-judge bench of the Telangana High Court  issued notice to the special chief secretary, revenue excise, Secretariat, and the director/commissioner, prohibition and excise department, in a contempt case. The bench of Chief Justice Ujjwal Bhuyan and Justice C.V. Bhasker Reddy was hearing a contempt case filed by P.R. Kumari against the department.

The case was filed based upon the order passed in a writ petition filed by P.R. Kumari seeking a direction to prescribe relaxation for height (165 cm) for men and women candidates for the post of assistant chemical examiner/laboratory assistant Grade 1 and chemical examiner. The plea said the same height criteria should be maintained for elevation for both male and female members to the post of assistant excise superintendent.

Earlier the court had directed the director/commissioner to consider the case of P.R. Kumari within two months. According to the contempt petition, this direction was followed in its breach. The bench posted the matter to January 24.
