Puducherry: “When the Taj Mahal turns gold ... the World will know that India Cares ...for Children with Cancer and their Families.” As part of initiative by the NGO Can Kid India, with the help of the department of medical
oncology, Regional Cancer Centre, Jipmer, along with Jiv Daya foundation and The Rotary Club Beach Town, Pondicherry child cancer patients decorated the replicas of the Taj Mahal with gold ribbons and lights on Sunday as part of observing International Childhood Cancer Awareness Day.
Gold is the chosen colour to represent the childhood cancer since 1978, to indicates that children are as precious and priceless as gold. The NGO initiated ‘Light it up gold Taj Mahal’ campaign all over India in September, hand in hand with the international theme for the year ‘Go Gold for children with Cancer and their families worldwide’.
The cancer awareness program started with a rally which began from the Kargil War memorial on the beach road and ended near the Gandhi statue and was flagged off by Dr B.Vishnu Bhat, Dean (Research) of JIPMER.
