Kozhikode: Happy reunion for a kid and mother
Manujith, a class nine student of Koorachund High School, had left home after his annual examination.
Kozhikode: Manujith, 14, had disappeared from his home at Kallanode here after an argument with his mother on April 13 last year. Thereafter, his mother Jetil Jose and brother Pavijith had no information about him. Their father had left them ten years ago. However, Jetil, an autorickshaw driver at Kallanode, had the happiest moment in her life when Manujith returned home on Sunday. Manujith, a class nine student of Koorachund High School, had left home after his annual examination.
He boarded a train, and a fellow passenger, whom he met on the train in Coimbatore, took him to his friend, Ramadas in Ramanathapuram. Ramdas, a bachelor, was living with his sisters and their children. Ramanathapuram being a backward area, Manujith could not talk to his mother over phone. However, he called her as soon as he could access a phone. A group of officers from Koorachund police station here reached Ramanathapuram on Saturday. They were surprised to find the family members sad and crying over parting with the teenager. He had become one of their own. The police took him back the next day and reunited him with his mother and brother.
“I thank those mothers who took care of my son like their own child. I lost him a day before last Vishu. We got him back just before this year’s Vishu. I’m thankful to all who cared for my child,” said a tearful Jetil. “Maybe the backwardness of their village kept my child safe,” said Jetil. Manujith could not continue his studies in Tamil Nadu in the absence of relevant certificates, said his mother. Manujith is waiting to join class 10 in the same school where the authorities have agreed to admit him to the next class.
