Thrissur: Co-operation and tourism minister A.C. Moideen has courted controversy by questioning the circle inspector investigating the murder of a CPM supporter in public. He asked why cop held a press meet and stated that the suspects arrested for the murder were CPM activists earlier who later crossed over to the BJP.

The minister who visited the house of Sasikumar of Chemban house in Engadiyur near Vadanappally on Saturday was seen closely watching on a mobile the press meet conducted by the Valappad CI R. Ratheeshkumar on Friday in which the investigation officer categorically stated the seven arrested suspects including the main suspect Panikassery Bineesh were earlier CPM supporters.

Such a stand taken by the police put the CPM in a fix as its leaders had been alleging that BJP workers upset over the LDF’s massive victory in the Assembly polls were behind the murder.

Vadanappally police were of the opinion that it was more of personal vengeance than political vendetta that led Sasikumar’s murder at Pokkulangara bridge near Engadiyoor. As Moideen was leaving the house of Sasikumar in his vehicle, he asked the CI what proof he had to substantiate the statement he made at the press meet.

“Your duty is to implement the policies of the government and if you want to become a star by conducting a press meet what findings do you have to prove your claims?” Moideen asked.

The minister also said the job of the police was to protect the public and not the RSS criminals. CPM is of the stand that those arrested in the case were not the actual culprits. When contacted, the CI said, “I am a CI and I cannot respond on such issues,” he said.
