ANANTAPUR: The state government has sanctioned 78 thousand quintals of groundnut seed for the upcoming Kharif season in Anantapur and Satya Sai districts.

However, government agencies have procured and transported only 20,000 quintals to the Rythu Bharosa Kendralu so far. The supplying agencies are still struggling to procure seeds for supply to RBKs even as the cultivation process starts on Monday.

There were showers in several parts of these districts. With predictions of timely rainfall, farmers have been preparing the ground for cultivation and are hoping to have favourable conditions in the coming Kharif season.

Processing of groundnut seed is being done in eight centres -- six in Anantapur and two in Satya Sai districts.

RBKS have been registering farmers who need subsidised seeds including intercrops for the kharif season. In addition to groundnut, about 7077 quintals of seeds of red gram, ragi and other intercrops have been allotted. Official sources said about 39,000 farmers have been registered for the supply of subsidized seeds through RBKs.
