Hyderabad: Conjoined twins Veena and Vani’s parents Naga and Maragani Murali have objected to the shifting the twins to the State Home as they claim the girls will feel insecure in the new environment.

In a petition to the state government, the parents said the twins would not be able to adapt to the new environment and they may be subjected to taunts and mischief by other children due to their abnormality.

Ms Naga Murali said the girls are growing up and would soon attain puberty and asked whether the Home would be safe for them. Mr Murali said, “We want the government to provide us a facility where we can stay with these girls and have easy access to a hospital.”

Mr Murali claimed Niloufer Hospital officials were “not co-operating” with them. “They are not sharing information about their future course of action,” he said.

But doctors refuted the charge and said when health minister Dr C. Laxma Reddy had already said the twins would be shifted to the State Home, there was very little that they could do.

A senior doctor said, “We are awaiting orders from the government as the twins can’t be kept in the hospital for long.”

An online campaign has been initiated to create awareness about the twins and their condition. Mr Mujtaba Askari, who is a part of this campaign, said, “We have started a campaign to garner support for the twins. It is important for them to live a life of dignity with their parents. We are now getting a group of medical experts to evaluate the feasibility of a full and safe separation.”
