Cochin University of Science and Technology syndicate sees noisy scenes
The meeting has also decided to implement insurance coverage to all students in the university.
KOCHI: The syndicate meeting of the Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) witnessed noisy scenes on Friday with members of the syndicate seeking a re-examination of the decision of the Vice-Chancellor reappointing an assistant professor in the biotechnology department. Syndicate members objected to the decision of the VC to reappoint the same person following the High Court verdict in the case filed by the second rank holder in the rank list for the assistant professor. The members pointed out that the VC has no power to examine the qualification as it was the prerogative of the Association of Indian Universities.
They also said only the syndicate has the power for appointments. Following the ruckus the meeting has decided to examine the file connected with the appointment in the next meeting. Syndicate members also criticised the selection of the person for MV Pylee Award. The committee to probe the controversy connected with plagiarism by photonics department has been reconstituted with Dr Jayaj as convener and Dr. A Sabu and Dr. Joshi as members. The meeting has also decided to implement insurance coverage to all students in the university. The meeting has also decided to form a framework for bringing all university staff and their family members under a medical claim.
