Calicut syndicate: Certificate issue may be discussed
The left may take charge of major committees like the staff, finance, examination and works and planning.
KOZHIKODE: The Calicut University Syndicate on Monday may discuss the recent issue where a UDF member issued medium of instruction certificate instead of the registrar on his letter pad. The meeting may also consider the reconstitution of standing committees and approval of boards of studies hastily constituted during the last months of the previous government. Syndicate member Dr K.M Naseer's action issuing medium of instruction certificate to a candidate who studied between 1995 and 2005 invited criticisms from Left organisations who urged the governor to probe.
Though Dr Naseer said he just prepared a model along with a recommendation letter to the section concerned, the Left members accuse him of abusing powers. "We are strongly recommending action against the member who abused his power. He was not even a syndicate member when the student studied here," said a Left member. However, the UDF members are terming it as a political move to oust him as the exam standing committee convener. The syndicate may also consider reconstituting various standing committees.
The left may take charge of major committees like the staff, finance, examination and works and planning. The present syndicate has 24 members including six ex-officio members. The LDF has 13 and UDF 11 including the VC and the PVC. The LDF is trying to bring all four government secretaries who are the ex-officio members to ensure a majority if a decision followed by an election happened in the meeting over the reconstitution. The syndicate may also consider the approval of various board members. The boards of studies constituted during the last months of UDF rule was not approved following the left protest citing election.
