Poor standard of students at degree level a concern: Dr V K Malhotra

KASARGOD: One of the major challenges facing  higher education in the country is the poor standard of students at the degree level though they score high marks at the secondary school level, according to   Dr V.K. Malhotra, member-secretary,  Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR). He was delivering the keynote address at the four-day workshop of  vice-chancellors and directors of elite institutions like IIM and NIT   at Kanhangad here on Monday. He asked the  workshop to take a serious view of this issue and find solutions for it.

The workshop hosted by  the Central University of Kerala is aimed at imparting leadership and administrative skills for the heads of higher education institutions in India. Nearly 20 VCs from across the country are participating in the workshop.
CUK VC Dr G. Gopakumar presided over the function. Experts will take classes on various topics such as institution building and project implementation, reservation rules on appointments, triple accreditation and international accreditation. Former diplomat Dr T.P. Sreenivasan, legal luminary Dr N. R. Madhava Menon, IIM Calcutta  professor Dr Biju Paul Abraham, reservation policy expert Dr H.S. Rana and  former ISRO chairman G. Madhavan Nair will be the resource persons.
