Puzhal prisoners die in Government Stanley Hospital
Two prison inmates succumbed to medical ailment.
Chennai: Two prison inmates at the Puzhal central prison succumbed to medical ailment at the Government Stanley Hospital during the last two days.
The deceased were identified as Murugesan (49) and Nagaraj (30). Nagaraj was arrested by the Sastri Nagar police in June this year after he was involved in an attempt to murder case there.
Police sources said that Nagaraj complained of severe diarrhoea on Sunday after which he was moved to the Stanley hospital after check-up at the prison hospital. He died without responding to treatment.
Another prison inmate, Murugesan, a native of Thimmavaram near Chengalpet, was a serial offender and an erstwhile associate of Somaya Raju, a notorious criminal, also serving term in prison. Murugesan has more than 18 pending case against him in various police stations and he has been detained under the Goondas Act, police said.
Murugesan was moved to the hospital after he complained of chest pain. He breathed last on Monday morning. Puzhal police have registered two separate cases under the CrPC Section 176 (1) (death in custody). A judicial magistrate number – 1 of the Tiruvallur court has been assigned to conduct the magistrate inquiry into the death of two prisoners.
