Ohio State University may enter into MoU with VIT

Vellore: The visit of Prof. N. Muthusamy, Division of Hematology, department of Internal Medicine, Ohio State University (OSU), USA, to the VIT University, here, as an adjunct faculty has heralds the possibility of collaborative research programmes between the two universities in areas of translational cancer research in leukemia.
Prof. Muthusamy was in Vellore recently on the initiative of Prof. P.K. Suresh (coordinating faculty) of the School of Bio Sciences and Technology (SBST) and the dean of SBST. The concept of adjunct faculty visiting the university was mooted by the Chancellor, Dr G. Viswanathan, to enhance the quality of the teaching-learning process and to forge links with international experts in the field, says a release from VIT University.
Prof. Muthusamy is a basic scientist of eminence and lead translational researcher with more than 110 publications in peer-reviewed high impact journals such as Nature, Immunity, Journal of Clinical Investigation, Blood, Leukemia, PNAS Journal of Immunology and Journal of Biological Chemistry.
In addition, he has several patents to his credit. He has been involved for more than 25 years (post-PhD) in performing cutting edge research into understanding the mechanism of leukemia development and developing mechanism-based therapies using modern technologies and novel humanized animal models.
Prof. Muthusamy has accepted the invitation and will be delivering advanced lectures in the areas of tumour immunology, autoimmunity, transplantation and antibody engineering to VIT’s immunology and immunotechnology students in the B.Tech. programme. It is likely that Prof. Muthusamy’s first visit to VIT University would pave the way for a MoU between OSU and VIT in the near future.
