Action against V A Zakir Hussein put on hold
The meeting failed to reach a decision as some leaders insisted that action should be initiated only after charges were proved.
KOCHI: The CPM Ernakulam district secretariat meeting held on Friday has failed to initiate any action against tainted party leader Zakir Hussein. Sources said that a meeting of the secretariat scheduled to be held on November 4 in the presence of party state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan is likely to discuss the issue of what action should be taken against Mr. Hussein. The meeting failed to reach a decision as some leaders insisted that action should be initiated only after charges were proved.
A statement issued by the CPM Ernakulam district committee said that the committee would consider the matter after the completion of the ongoing investigation. The Palarivattom police on Thursday had registered a case against Mr. Hussein for abducting Juby Poulose, who claims to a business partner in dairy plant, run by a person named Sheela Thomas. The abduction was carried out allegedly on behalf of Ms.Thomas with the help of Karukappilly Siddique, who is already in police custody for extortion and other offences in another case.
Siddique, a local level leader of the DYFI, has already been expelled from the organisation. The CPM district committee meanwhile stated that the party would conduct a detailed examination of allegations against Mr. Hussein, a member of the district committee and Kalamasserry area secretary. "Proper investigation should be conducted in the case registered. The party has not intervened in this matter", the statement said.
