CHENNAI: Encouraging the diploma students to learn anytime from anywhere, Directorate of Technical Education (Dote) in the state, is planning to produce and upload more than 1,000 bi-lingual e-lectures on its website. The project started in August and so far 28 lectures have been uploaded onto the website www.tndote.org “In the first go, we have produced videos for difficult subjects in engineering and design like structural engineering, engineering mechanics and circuit theory. In a year and a half we will produce e-lectures for entire diploma syllabus across five major disciplines,” Dote officials said.

The e-lectures will be produced for civil engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical and electronics engineering, electronics and communication engineering and computer science engineering branches. Students have to click the title on which they want to learn. That will lead them to the YouTube page where they can listen to the lectures by expert faculties. At present,  more than 3.5 lakh students are studying in 510 polytechnic colleges across the state.

“Many of the diploma students are hailing from rural areas. To help them understand the difficult engineering subjects the bi-lingual e-lectures series was launched,” officials said. In these lectures the expert faculties will explain the subjects, both in Tamil and English languages. As these videos are purely based on the diploma syllabus the students can also prepare for exams by watching these lectures by expert faculties.

“Many polytechnic colleges are already downloading our e-lectures. It is also catching the attention of students,” they said. Each lecture is being made for a duration of 45 minutes to one hour. “Students can watch these e-lectures after their classes if they have any doubt on the topic or before their semester exams. They can learn any topic, anytime from anywhere,” officials explained. Dote also plans to use the retired faculties who are experts in their respective field for this project. “Depending on the availability of the faculties and expertise, we will try to finish this project as early as possible,” they said.
