2018 is just around the corner and Bengaluru is ready to party! Clubs and restaurants across the city are going all out for the revelry, with dance troupes, musicians and performers pouring in for the NYE weekend. Even so, the Church Street  'mass molestation' from 2016-17, casts a long shadow. M.G. Road and Brigade Road, where the party spills out onto the streets at the stroke of midnight, are likely to be far more sober this year.

Sunny Nights, the party that has courted controversy this December is no longer on the cards, with Sunny Leone backing out of the event and disappointing her legion of fans. A New Year's Eve celebration on Church Street, which was in the pipeline until quite recently, is now off the table. The BBMP, which had promised to have the street ready for vehicles and pedestrians by November, says it will only be thrown open on January 31. That's not to say you won't have any fun - the restaurants and clubs that line the street have an array of parties lined up, provided you're willing to brave the post-midnight crush! Bengalureans are swapping the thrills of urban nightlife with scenic views and stargazing this year. Party-goers are heading out, sleeping bags and jackets in tow, to places like Chikmagalur, Kodaikanal, Coorg and Agumbe, for open air concerts and jungle safaris, to watch the sun set on 2017 and roast marshmallows over roaring campfires! Whatever your choice of party, we hope 2018 rolls around with a bng!

The Tourism Department will make up for the absence of a  New Year's Eve party with  cultural events along the lines of the Bengaluru Habba once Church Street is ready.

Speaking to DC, Mayor Smapath Raj said that the world-class road has been designed with Italian streetlights fitted with motion sensors that will be in place by January 2018. The road has been developed beautifully, with interlocking cobblestones and pavements laid with granite slabs, said Irfan Noor, Secretary, Church Street Occupants Association.

"Although the BBMP has delayed the project, the workmanship is very impressive. Utlities have been so well developed that the road will never have to be dug up," he added.
