Tirupati district police achieve 15% reduction in crime rates
Tirupati: Tirupati district police have successfully curtailed the overall crime rate by 15 per cent in 2023 compared to the previous year, announced district superintendent of police P. Parameswara Reddy on Friday.
Releasing the year-end crime data pertaining to the temple town, he highlighted the decline in bodily offences, which decreased from 710 in 2022 to 687 this year. Murder cases dropped from 55 cases last year to 37 in 2023.
Parameswara Reddy pointed out that property offences saw a decrease, with 987 cases reported this year compared to 1,047 in the preceding year. Additionally, recovery of stolen property has shown improvement, reaching 72 per cent this year, up from 66 per cent in 2022.
The SP said district police's vigilance against smuggling of red sanders proved effective, resulting in arrest of 76 smugglers in connection with 15 cases. Over the course of the year, 34 vehicles and 975 red sanders logs worth ₹9.75 crore have been seized.
He underlined that police have successfully cracked down on ganja smuggling. 416 individuals have been apprehended for their involvement in 105 ganja cases. Law enforcement agencies seized approximately 1,220 kg of contraband valued at around ₹1.63 crore.
On new initiatives of the district police, Parameswara Reddy pointed out that they have launched mobile hunt services in 2023, leading to recovery of 1,750 stolen or lost mobile phones valued at approximately ₹3.15 crore.
He commended the district police for their performance throughout the year. Their efforts have resulted in not only in reducing overall crime rates but also in efficiently managing VVIP bandobast duties at Tirumala and Tirupati.
“These achievements underscore the dedication and effectiveness of entire district police force in 2023,” the SP added.
