TS Dy CM Tells SCCL to Ensure Coal Supply in Summer
Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka on Friday directed the Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) to guarantee ample supply of coal to thermal power plants in Telangana state, to ensure uninterrupted generation of power in the summer.
Bhatti, holding the finance and power portfolios, urged the SCCL to explore commencing operations in the Naini coal block in Odisha, where the company holds mining rights. The meeting on Friday primarily involved a briefing on SCCL operations, coal production and the company's future plans.
At present, Telangana state boasts an installed capacity of 4,042.50 Mega Watts in the thermal power sector and 2,442.76 MW in the hydel sector. With water levels at dead storage levels in all hydel power generating stations, the state now heavily relies on thermal power and purchase from other states.
The likelihood of hydel generation resuming depends on next year's rainfall and the inflows reaching the reservoirs in the state.
Bhatti also pointed out to SCCL officials the importance of ensuring the proper well-being of every worker in the company, with a focus on maintaining safe working conditions.
