Nalgonda: Couple hands over 13th girl
Kamli gave her 13th daughter to the Devarakonda Shishu Vihar.
Hyderabad: Two days after an alleged infanticide in which a six-day-old girl died in Chandampet in Nalgonda, a couple from the same tanda handed over their newborn girl to Shishu Vihar. The child happens to be the 13th one of the couple.
The couple wanted a boy, but the woman delivered girls in all her 13 deliveries. Six of them died in infancy. The couple, Ramavath Chandru and Kamli, belongs to Polyanayak Tanda in Mududandla village.
Kamli delivered her 13th girl on January 19, and surrendered the child to the Shishu Vihar in Devarakonda. Kamli gave birth to 12 girls in the past, but six of them died in infancy. The other kids are aged between 1 and 14 years. In the 13th delivery the couple was hoping for a boy but it turned out to be a girl. Sources in the village said that Kamli has not undergone birth control surgery and the couple is planning another child again. According to the customs of the village women keep conceiving till they give birth to a male child.
