Kerala: Drop election promises here

KOZHIKODE: Waste bins are the right places to keep the promises being made by political parties during election time. This point has been made strikingly clear by a few youngsters here through a novel method. A few months ago, Calicut Walkathon Club, an association of morning walkers at Kozhikode beach, had installed a few colourful waste bins at various parts of the beach. But soon after the election dates were announced, graffiti appeared on them saying ‘Put your election promises here.’ This was done by a group of unidentified youngsters in the wee hours one day.
Though the walkers as well as beach protection unions were surprised, they agreed with the message as they said politicians forget their promises as soon as the results are declared. “We were indeed surprised to see these words on the waste bins, but they are apt for the poll season,” said S.D. Shenoy, vice-president of Calicut Walkathon Club.
“We appreciate the efforts of those who wrote the graffiti as the politicians’ promises are good for the waste bins only,” he added. The current political situation has nothing better to offer, they said and added that the youngsters were making use of the waste bins for the first time though they had been writing such words on the walls.
