Hyderabad: As many as seven trucks have arrived in the city from Kolkata carrying mild steel pipes. These pipes will be used to construct the country’s tallest flag post proposed to be erected at Sanjeevaiah Park.

More pipes are expected to come on Monday, officials of Roads and Buildings department said.

The diameter of the pole (pipe) is 1.8 metres at the bottom and half metre at the top. The total weight of the pipes is about 50 tonnes, they said, adding that they were expecting a green signal from Airports Authority of India on Monday to go ahead with the proposed 303 feet flag post or at least 295-feet flag post.

“The work is in full swing. Even the national flag along with 500-tonne capacity crane have started from Mumbai and will reach Hyderabad on Monday. We will assemble it on Monday and complete work by June 1 for trial to be conducted,” an official said.

Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao had asked officials to construct the country’s tallest flag post and biggest flag at Sanjeevaiah Park, to be unfurled on June 2 coinciding with the Telangana State Formation day celebrations.

The AAI has given permission for a 51-metre or 167 feet high pole. AAI officials here have forwarded the application of the state government to the headquarters in Delhi for a flagpole of 303 ft. The government had taken up the issue with the Central government.
