THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: After chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking the repeal of restrictions imposed on cattle slaughter, the CPM has decided to organise a state wide political campaign against the Centre’s decision which the party strongly believes is part of RSS agenda to create communal disturbance in the country. The CPM is planning to intensify the campaign against the RSS dictated policies in the state. The party has chosen 2000 centres for holding dharnas on June 2 through which it will educate people about Sangh Parivar’s dubious agenda.

The party believes that apart from state government’s intervention, the issue also needs to be dealt politically to build peoples resistance against such divisive decisions. The dharnas will be held from 4 pm onwards in front of panchayats, municipalities, corporations and public places. CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said the BJP Government was implementing a dangerous agenda of imposing restrictions on the food habits of the people. The notification is part of the Centre's attempt to legalise the divisive agenda and to deprive lakhs of people of their livelihood means besides curbing the right to have food of their choice.

By putting the entire responsibility of aged and unhealthy cattle on the farmers, the Centre has put additional burden on the farmers who are facing crisis because of crop loss, falling prices of their produce and drought. The Centre's move will push the farmers to suicide, he said. The Centre's notification will seriously hit the efforts being made by LDF Government to achieve self sufficiency in milk production.
