THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Various appointments in NORKA-Roots during the last months of the previous UDF government are  also under the scanner of the cabinet sub-committee reviewing the controversial decisions. According to sources, a final decision on whether to terminate their service or not would be taken on the basis of the cabinet sub-committees view.

A  proposal to terminate them was kept in abeyance till the sub-committee decided, said sources. It is also learnt that some beneficiaries were exerting pressure on the government not to take any adverse decision on their appointments. Among those who were allegedly recruited flouting norms were Nirupama Mary Thomas,  manager-recruitments,  who is the daughter of a former Congress leader from Pathanamthitta,  and M.B. Reshmi,  assistant manager, who was a former Congress councillor in Thiruvananthapuram corporation.

It may be recalled that the decision of NORKA-Roots to entrust the key responsibility of overseas recruitment of nurses to freshly appointed contract staff had kicked up  a controversy. Even the Election Commission had sought clarifications from the NORKA-Roots on the appointments that took place ahead of the Assembly polls.
