Time media restrictions in courts lifted, says Pinarayi Vijayan
The Government could not take a decision as it was an issue involving the court, chief minister said
Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said on Friday that he hoped that the High Court would withdraw the restrictions imposed on reporting the events inside the court in the media. Mr Vijayan told reporters here on Friday that the stage had come to allow the entry of journalists inside the court. “I expect that the court will take an appropriate decision on the issue.” The Government could not take a decision as it was an issue involving the court.
The situation that led to the curb on media inside the court should also be remembered while discussing the issue, Mr Vijayan said. “The incidents that happened outside the High Court gate were very unfortunate and should not have happened. This may have been the reason for temporary restrictions imposed inside the gate of the high court,” Mr Vijayan said. He added, “Journalists and lawyers are not supposed to be at odds with each other. Both sides are using sharp words. The issues happened because the two sides took an emotional stand.”
