Efforts on to derail Nadigar Sangam, say office-bearers
The veteran actor told reporters that the individual who was causing trouble had become a member of the association 3 years ago.
Chennai: Office-bearers of the South Indian Artistes Association (SIAA) charged that there are forces at work to derail the development work which is on the anvil following the change of guard in Nadigar Sangam. Led by its president Nasser, a delegation met the top brass at the City Police Commissionerate on Monday seeking protection for the SIAA employees besides seeking action against miscreants posing threats to the functioning of SIAA.
The veteran actor told reporters that the individual who was causing trouble had become a member of the association 3 years ago. “It was learnt that he was not an actor at all. We also don't know how he managed to get membership,” he rued. “The special executive committee will be convened this week in this regard. Action will be taken as per the bylaws of the institution. We have also requested action against the culprits to smoothen out things,” he observed.
On ironing out the differences among the members belonging to various political parties, the actor maintained that the organisation is apolitical and it will be kept that way.
“We are willing to face a wily section of outsiders targeting us as individuals legally, but would not allow them to malign the reputation of convention and tradition of the institution formed for a greater cause,” he claimed.
According to the petition, a member, Varagi had come to the SIAA office on Sunday seeking clarification on some of the issues and the committee members including Poochi Murugan, Sriman, Premkumar and Udaya along with the legal adviser Krishna Ravindran, were waiting to brief them. Varagi began addressing the media straightaway making baseless allegations.
In the meantime, another member, Sangaiah, entered the association building and abused the staff besides threatening to kill them. He snatched a staff's mobile phone and threw it away.
The SIAA demanded action against Varagi, Sangaiah, S.A. Raju, M. Usha, Kovai Lakshmi, V. Akila, J.B. Rani, R. Devi, V. Jayanthi, M. Solaimani, A. Veeramani, V. Murali, P. Sandhiya, K.S. Rajini, R. Deivendran, S. Malarkodi and K. Ponnuswamy. The manager said that a complaint had already lodged with the Teynampet police on the same day.
