Hyderabad: Man gets 10-year RI for raping girl

Hyderabad: A 57-year-old man who had sexually abused a six-year-old girl three years ago was sentenced to 10 years rigorous imprisonment on Thursday.

According to the police, Dayanand, who was 57 at that time, was the owner of the house where the child’s family lived. Three years ago, during the Dasara festival, he called the child up to his flat in the same building when he was alone.

The child informed her mother and went to the accused’s flat. When the mother went upstairs to fetch the child, she heard her daughter screaming and banged on the door. Dayanand opened the door and let the child go with her mother. After coming home the mother asked the little girl about the screams and the child told her what had happened. The mother lodged a complaint with the Amberpet police.

The Amberpet police booked a case under IPC Sections 376 (rape), 342 (punishment for wrongful confinement) and under relevant sections of the POCSO Act.

The first additional metropolitan sessions judge and special judge for POCSO cases, Ms Kunchala Sunitha, convicted the accused and sentenced him to 10 undergo years rigorous imprisonment as well as pay a fine of `2,000, a police official said.
