Vijayawada: AP director general of police (DGP) K.V. Rajendranath Reddy on Sunday made it clear that the police department is not imposing any special restrictions on the immersion of Vinayaka statues.

Appealing to people not to trust any rumours being spread in this regard, the DGP went on to ask people to celebrate Vinayaka Chavithi Nimajjanam in a grand manner.

He said instructions have been issued to the police department to conduct immersion of Ganesh idols in a smooth manner in coordination with Ganesh Nimmajana committees. He advised those taking idols in a procession to ensure that they do not touch overhead electrical wires.

Rajendranath Reddy said the responsibility of managing queues at the mandapas requires cooperation from the organising committee members. He advised mandapa organisers to also dutifully guard their statues during night hours.

The DGP said measures are being taken to avoid traffic problems at places where Ganesha idols are being established.
