GHMC commissioner B. Janardhan Reddy said, As per the surveys of 1960 and 1970, some maps are available which can be utilised with the existing satellite system so that encroachments can easily be identified.

Hyderabad: Karvan MLA Mr Kausar Mohiuddin on Thursday protested the demolishment of a floor of a multi-storied building at Gudimalkapur.

The AIMIM MLA argued with the GHMC staff asking them to focus on nala encroachments instead of on illegal buildings, while the civic officials claimed that it was an unauthorised building.

Over 30 illegally constructed buildings have been demolished in the ongoing drive so far in the south zone, maximum of them being from Begum Bazaar.

The MLA, along with the area corporator, stopped demolition at the site on Thursday morning, they argued with the staff pointing out that they should focus on nala encroachments and not on individual owners. This, despite the fact that the building was illegal and the CM had given explicit orders not to spare any encroachments.

The MLA told DC, “The building near Galaxy theatre on the main road of Shaikpet division is owned by a private builder who is associated with the constituency.

The GHMC did not issue any notice before starting demolition, neither have they given any time. On Thursday morning the owner approached me for help following which I questioned the demolition staff on the action taken. Instead of demolishing the illegal floor, they broke down the legal floors too. After a word with the commissioner the demolition was stalled. Let the focus be on nala encroachment, don’t target individuals.”

The circle assistant city planner said, “Permission was granted for ground plus three floors, however the builder had illegally built another two floors, the lift was built on the main road.”
