THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Veteran leader V.S. Achuthanandan on Saturday hoped that the government would act strongly against the corrupt officials. The administrative reforms commission chairman said he expected tough action in corruption cases. "The government should go ahead and act against corrupt forces," he told media persons on the sidelines of a meeting. Mr Achuthanandan leader had recently alleged that there was a dubious move from certain quarters against Vigilance and Anti Corruption Bureau (VACB) director Jacob Thomas to delay the investigations into corruption cases.

Mr Thomas' contention that some top officials were clandestinely operating against him seemed to be correct, he had pointed out. Mr Achuthanandan had cautioned against the dark forces which were not letting Mr Thomas work in the department. He had also pointed out that people like former finance minister K.M. Mani and former excise minister K. Babu were keen to see vigilance director's ouster to weaken the investigations into bar bribe case. Sources close to the veteran leader said he was upset over the manner in which attempts were being made to demoralise the vigilance director. According to Mr Achuthanandan, all corrupt people had ganged up against him and they had unleashed a false propaganda.
