Hyderabad: Promoter arrested in cheque bounce case
Was named in CBI Vs CBI case involving Alok Verma.
Hyderabad: The promoter of MBS Jewellers in Hyderabad, Sukesh Gupta, was arrested by the Sultan Bazaar police in Hyderabad on Tuesday, following a warrant issued by the 11th Metropolitan Magistrate in Kolkata, in a cheque bouncing case.
Sukesh Gupta had allegedly taken a loan of Rs 110 crore from SREI Equipment Finance Ltd and had mortgaged some property for the purpose. He had issued cheques to clear the debt. However, the cheques bounced and a case was filed against him. Sources said that Sukesh Gupta had been stalling the auction of the properties which were put up as surety by filing cases in various courts.
According to the sources, Sukesh Gupta has been abroad for the past 10 months after his name reportedly surfaced in the CBI vs CBI case between the then agency director Alok Kumar Verma and the then special director Rakesh Asthana.
However, the 11th Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court in Kolkata issued an arrest warrant against Sukesh Gupta and directed the Sultan Bazaar police to execute the warrant immediately.
Tipped off that he had come back to the city, the Sultan Bazaar police swung into action and picked Sukesh Gupta up from his office and arrested him.
Inspector K. Subbarami Reddy of the Sultan Bazaar police said, “The warrant from the Kolkata court was received through post to arrest Sukesh Gupta. He was arrested on Tuesday and is being taken to Kolkata to be produced before the concerned court.”
