Angamaly-Sabari railway line to speed up

Thiruvananthapuram: Angamaly-Sabari railway line is the only project from the state to find a place in Pro-Active Governance And Timely Implementation (Pragati) scheme, designed in-house by the Prime Minister’s Office with the help of National Informatics Centre (NIC) for ensuring speedy implementation. The project had come up for discussions at the meeting attended by the state government and the railway officials on the formation of the joint venture company (JVC) for cost sharing.

Only a seven-kilometre line between Angamaly and Kaladi was developed in 2010 as part of the Sabari rail project sanctioned in 1998, in cold storage for many years. The meeting decided to cut its cost by reducing the land to be acquired. The decision was to consider whether the vacant space on both sides of the railway line can be reduced from three to 1.5 metres. They also discussed a plan for extending it to Punalur on the Kollam-Sengottai line, effectively a new line from Thiruvananthapuram to Chennai. Pragati is a three-tier IT-based redressal and monitoring system where the PM interacts through video conferencing on various issues including those relating to stalled projects.
