University Grants Commission makes it easy for colleges
The UGC has amended rules for granting autonomous status to colleges.
Hyderabad: The UGC has amended rules for granting autonomous status to colleges, with universities being told to clear applications within three months. “If the varsity fails to take any decision within three months, it shall be presumed that the university has no objection to the proposal,” the UGC said. Chaitanya Degree College in Warangal waited for 10 years before it got the NoC. College chairman C. Purushotham Reddy felt the UGC decision would expedite the process and formalities along with UGC nod could be completed in six months.
Former NAAC director V.S. Prasad said, “No university will like to give up its authority over colleges under its jurisdiction. As there was no timeline, it was up to the universities to give a clearance.” Asked about the order, JNTU registrar Dr N. Yadaiah said the university would have no problem with the UGC deadline.
