Polling Peaceful in Nizamabad, 68.3 Percent Turnout Recorded

HYDERABAD: Polling in nine assembly constituencies of erstwhile Nizamabad district has been peaceful barring sporadic incidents.

Some 68.30 per cent polling was recorded in Nizamabad while 71.07 per cent in Kamareddy district at 5pm deadline. A few voters who entered the polling stations before the closing time were allowed to cast their vote and the overall polling percentage might increase.

Voters reached the polling stations in large numbers at the start of polling at 7 am. By 5pm, the polling percentage at Armoor was 68.34 per cent, Bodhan 68.05, Jukkal 70.21, Banswada 73.68, Yellareddy 74.07, Kamareddy 68.94, Nizamabad urban 59.10, Nizamabad rural 72.67 and Balkonda 71 per cent. Average poll percentage in Nizamabad district was 68.30 per cent and in Kamareddy district 71.07.

 

In Kamareddy constituency, TPCC president and Congress candidate A Revanth Reddy visited various polling stations in Jangampally and Kamareddy municipal towns. He interacted with the voters. During the Revanth’s visit at a polling station in Subhash theatre road, Congress activists raised slogans as ‘Revanth ..CM’.

 

The BRS activists raised slogans of ‘KCR CM’. Police dispersed the two groups and security personnel provided cover to Revanth Reddy.

 

BRS activists argued with police for allowing more number of leaders along with Revanth Reddy at polling booths.

 

Following the complaint from BRS leaders, police seized the vehicle of Revanth Reddy’s brother Kondal Reddy. Demanding release of his vehicle, Kondal staged a protest and told the police that he was the chief election agent in Kamareddy.

 

Kethi Narayana, resident of chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao’s ancestral village Konapur in Bibipet mandal, said their villagers enthusiastically participated in polling at mandal parishad primary school. BRS working president and minister KT Rama Rao constructed the modern building for the primary school, where the officials set up the polling booths this time.

 

Radhika, a woman voter at Gunj in Kamareddy said it was a matter of 10 minutes for her to enter the polling booth and do the polling. Meanwhile, officials specially decorated polling booths on the day of polling. Colourful balloons tagged at entrance and welcome arches were set up.

Kamareddy MLA Gampa Govardhan took a round of the constituency to observe the polling trends. After TPCC president Revanth Reddy reached Kamareddy, Congress activists confidently carried on with the polling.
