Visakhapatnam: As Vizag city police have decided to tighten their grip on drunken driving and midnight parties on New Year Eve, city folks have started finding alternative venues such as Ananthagiri, Lammasingi, Dallapalle and a few others areas in Vizag Agency, where the police vigil is very low. The owners of sound system and lighting say they have been receiving calls from youngsters to arrange sound and light show for their parties in Vizag Agency on December 31 night and January 1.
ACP (traffic) K. Prabhakar said they have also been equipped with over 50 advanced breathalyzer machines to keep a check on drunken driving at various places in Vizag city from 8 pm on December 31 to 5 am on January 1. If any motorist caught for drunken driving, we will seize their vehicle and produce the motorist before the court. If the court sentence the motorists, we will collect their Aadhar number to link with tipsy motorist data in police records and they may face trouble while applying for passport, government jobs, he added.
The police appealed the New Year revellers to refrain from tipsy driving. It is time to celebrate New Year with drink, dine and dance. It is not at all possible to welcome the New Year by holding a glass of spirit as men-in-khaki has made all the security arrangement to spoil the midnight parties.
