Flyovers to be closed on new year celebrations in Bengaluru
BENGALURU: As a precautionary measure during New Year celebrations in Bengaluru city, as many as 30 flyovers across the Bengaluru city will be closed on December 31 night while one flyover connecting to Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) will remain open.
However, the flyover linking International Airport, no two-wheelers will be allowed to operate and two-wheelers have to take roads below the flyover to reach their destinations.
Disclosing about the elaborate arrangements being made for the New Year celebrations, Special Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Bengaluru city, Dr M.A. Saleem told media persons here on Thursday that the move to close down flyovers is to avoid over speeding of vehicles and negligent driving on the flyovers.
Even on NICE road there will be no permission for two-wheelers after 9 pm, said Saleem adding that in previous years owing to violations of traffic rules several accidents on the stretch of the road were reported.
Saleem stated “Our focus is on diversion of traffic in places having footfalls more.” Traffic policemen will ensure that residents have a safe journey.
Over the road fatalities on New Year’s celebrations, Saleem attributed the road fatalities to driving, negligent driving and over speeding, and this year, he said, policemen will keep a close eye and check-posts will be set-up at convenient locations and conduct random checks on vehicles and also on driving under the influence of alcohol.
