Praja Bhavan hit-and-run: Friends of accused petition HC over police harassment'
Hyderabad: Accomplices of Sahil, alias Mohammed Raheel Amir, alias Baba, the son of former BRS Bodhan legislator Shakeel Ahmed, in the Praja Bhavan hit-and-run case that took place on December 24, on Saturday approached the High Court seeking directions to police against harassing them under the guise of interrogation.
Syed Zakriya Rahman and three others, over the incident wherein Raheel allegedly crashed his BMW into the barricades of Praja Bhavan in the early hours, filed a writ petition in the court against the Panjagutta police,
asking they be restrained from frequently summoning them to the police station.
The SHO of Panjagutta police station was also suspended for allegedly letting Raheel escape and implicating his driver Abdul Asif in the case. The police had previously reported that Raheel, after escaping from the police
station following the incident, left for Dubai the same day from the Shamshabad airport. An FIR was also registered.
The petitioners, through their counsel, informed the court that they were unaware of Raheel’s whereabouts and that despite telling the police the same, continued to be harassed.
Justice C.V. Bhaskar Reddy directed the government counsel to get instructions in this case by January 29, 2024, and directed the police to follow the due procedure of law as per the CrPC while summoning and questioning the petitioners.
