Chennai: Grid body plan to stabilise supply
2 circuits to be diverted to Tuticorin.
Thoothkudi: To enhance reliability and to diversify the distribution of electricity produced at Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project (KKNPP), two of the four circuits now terminating at Tirunelveli power pooling station at Abishegapatti would be diverted to Thoothukudi pooling station at Ettaiahpuram, according to the additional general manager (Tamil Nadu projects) of Power Grid Corporation of India (PGCI), A Surendran.
The power produced at the nuclear power station at Kudankulam in is being evacuated to the national grid by four power circuits—three of which are terminating at Tirunelveli pooling at Abishegapatti and one at the Madurai pooling station.
“To further enhance the reliability and diversification of the power evacuation system, two of the three circuits terminating at Tirunelveli will henceforth be diverted to Thoothukudi pooling station at Ettaiahpuram,” said Surendran.
The project for the diversion of the circuits to Thoothukudi pooling station is on and is expected to be commissioned in the next couple of months,” added Surendran, speaking here on Monday. Under the Union government’s policy of “One nation, One grid” power grids connecting the entire nation are being created, according to Surendran.
The commissioning of the Cholapur (Uttar Pradesh)—Raichur (Karnataka)—Karnool (Andra Pradesh)—Thiruvalam (Tamil Nadu) power grid of 5,000 mw capacity has ensured power distribution to the length and breadth of the nation in a single frequency at a lower distribution cost.
A similar project connecting Kholapur (Maharashtra)—Hudugi (Karnataka)—Madhagiri (Karnataka)—Dharmapuri (Tamil Nadu) is also being implemented for power evacuation.
The Power grid corporation too has taken up the project of constructing the country’s longest double circuit grid with the highest power evacuation capacity of 6, 000 mw between Chhattisgharh, in central India and Pugalur near Karur in Tamil Nadu. “Land leveling to construct a sub-station at Kangeyam in Tirupur district has just started under this longest power grid project,” the PGCI official added.
