He said the ongoing agitation was not just student stir but a people's issue.
THIRUVANANTHARUAM: Veteran Leader V S Achuthanandan on Monday said the government should not shy away from taking action against Law Academy Law College for misuse of land. In a letter to Revenue Minister E Chandrashekharan he said the surplus land unauthorisedly held by the Academy should be taken back immediately. He said the ongoing agitation was not just student stir but a people’s issue. He said government should take back the land which was being utilised for purposes other than what it was allotted to Law Academy. It needs to be examined whether the land was allotted to the Trust in its current form.
“Is it legal for them to enter into an agreement with a private real estate company for constructing flats in a prime area like Punnen Road ? Are those buying flats there have membership of the society ? All these issues need to be examined in great detail and in the event of any violation strict action should be taken against the violators,” he said. Meanwhile reacting to the letter written by Achuthanandan, the revenue minister said at the moment there were no issues concerning Law Academy surplus land before the government. The minister said the government will look into the complaints related to misuse of land.
