Chennai: Trucker strike to intensify from today

The Minister had apparently wanted to discuss the issues with the secretaries before coming to a conclusion, the members said.

Presenting a charter of demands to the State Transport Minister, MR Vijaya Bhaskar, Tamil Nadu state lorry owners association members put forth three demands: Reduction in RTO fees, VAT and making speed governors non-mandatory.

Chennai: Disappointed over lack of support from the government officials, members of the trucker association stated that they would intensify theur indefinite strike until their demands are fulfilled.

Presenting a charter of demands to the State Transport Minister, MR Vijaya Bhaskar, Tamil Nadu state lorry owners association members put forth three demands: Reduction in RTO fees, VAT and making speed governors non-mandatory.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, C..Dhanraj, secretary, State Lorry Owners' Federation, Tamil Nadu said, "We were very disappointed that none of the government representatives rendered their support to the protest. The Minister had identified our demands, but did not promise to fulfil them all."
