KOZHIKODE: As the state prepares for the Pravesanolsavam 2017 (start of the new academic year), authorities have a reason to rejoice. The schools in the government and aided sectors, especially in Malabar, are witnessing unprecedented enrollments. Many in Kannur and Kozhikode districts had to increase the divisions to accommodate all. “It was after the government introduced several beneficial educational projects and also infrastructure development projects," said Kannur district collector Mir Muhammad Ali.

"The parents have started to prefer these schools." "Compared to previous years, there is a good sign of acceptance for state syllabus among students and parents," added district panchayat president K.V. Sumesh. In some of the schools which did not have more than 50 new students had more than 150 admissions this year. “We were more excited about the fact that parents now prefer their wards to study in public sector schools," Kozhikode district panchayat president Babu Parassery said.

"There is an increase in the admissions to Class II and above as well. They are shifting them here from private schools." Pravesanolsavam is conducted in all government and aided primary schools in the state. "Through this, the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan is trying to help the children familiarise quickly with the school environment," said Mr Parassery. The district-level inauguration will be held at Manakkad Government UP School here and Kajirangad ALP School in Kannur.
