Necklace Road is PV Marg from now
The decision was taken to mark the conclusion of PV's birth centenary celebrations on June 28
HYDERABAD: The state Cabinet which met on Sunday decided to rename the 5.5 km Necklace Road on the banks of the Hussainsagar after the late former prime minister P.V. Narasimha Rao.
The road, a favourite with families for its lawns, eateries and children play areas apart from walking paths, P.V. Narasimha Rao Marg or PV Marg. The decision was taken to mark the conclusion of PV's birth centenary celebrations on June 28.
It may be recalled that Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao had launched the year-long celebrations to commemorate the birth centenary of Narasmiha Rao, the father of India’s economic reforms, who hailed from the state, on June 28 last year. He had allocated '10 crore for the celebrations.
Necklace Road is known to be the brainchild of the then Chief Minister of undivided AP Kotla Vijayabhaskar Reddy who initiated the project in 1982 during the Congress regime. Later, the TD government headed by N.T. Rama Rao developed the project by installing a Buddha statue in the Hussainsagar.
N. Chandrababu Naidu, who took over as Chief Minister later, took up several development programmes and beautified the Necklace Road. During late Chief Minister Y.S. Rajashekar Reddy's tenure, land was allotted for PV Gyan Bhoomi at Necklace Road, for samadhi of the late prime ,inister.
