Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Water Authority (KWA) has shut the 700 mm pipe of the Japan   International Cooperation Agency (JICA) aided water supply scheme in order to repair the pipeline near Bakery Junction in the city on Saturday. The line caters to areas under Kuriayathi sub  division. The pipe was closed down for maintenance of the intersection of the pipeline at Bakery Junction.

The pipeline carries water to the reservoir situated on the Homoeo College premises at Iranimuttam, one of the 11 reservoirs that come as a  package under the JICA project of KWA. Sources in the KWA said that the maintenance work was long overdue and had been held as per the schedule announced earlier. The reservoir, with a capacity of 70 lakh litres, was  commissioned in 2012 after considerable water scarcity in the area.

Water supply to areas falling under the Kuriyathi subdivision of the Kerala Water Authority (KWA) was disrupted from 6 am on Saturday. The supply is likely to be normalised by early on the morning of Sunday. Water supply to  Kuriyathi, Puthenkotta, Manacaud, Fort, Pazhav-angady, Palkulangara, Sreekanteshwaram, Kait-hamukku, Sreevaraham, Attukal, Mukkolakkal, Kalippankulam, Konjira-vila, Kamaleshwaram, Ambalathara, Poonthura, Beemapally, Valiyathura, Vallakkadavu, Shang-humugham and airport will be partially disrupted because of the works.
