Two injured in clashes at Vadakara

The shops remained closed and some private vehicles were seen on the road.

KOZHIKODE: Two persons were injured in Vadakara during clashes erupted between SDPI and BJP on Saturday night. The hartal supporters pelted stones at a a lorry that was carrying fish from Thalassery to Vadakara after the hartal was announced, in Azhiyur near vadakara.  Driver of the lorry, Shameer, Kaliyan Valappil, from Iritty was injured and was taken to a private hospital in Thalassery.

A BJP worker, Jithesh Paravanta Valappil, was injured during a clash between BJP and SDPI workers after vehicles were stopped near Erikkinchal near Vadakara. Chombala police reached the spot and the man was taken to Indira Gandhi Cooperative Hospital in Thalassery. The shops remained closed and some private vehicles were seen on the road.

Meanwhile Hartal supporters forcibly closed down a couple of petrol pumps which operated in city areas and they blocked a few vehicles, mainly two-wheelers and auto rickshaws even in the presence of policemen. However, party activists allowed other vehicles including private cars to go. BJP workers took out protest marches at various places in the city and outskirts. Long distance KSRTC buses which reached the Ernakulam depot in the morning did not operate further trips as per the instructions of higher officials.
