VIJAYAWADA: Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham Jayendra Saraswathi was admitted to the Andhra Hospital in Vijayawada on Tuesday following a seizure. Hospital authorities said he was brought in an unconscious state. He was feeling drowsy and was having problems breathing before being taken to the hospital, a close associate of the seer said.

Andhra Hospital managing director Dr P.V. Ramana Murthy said that the seer’s health was improving and he was off the ventilator. “The sodium levels should be above 135 in normal conditions, and it will take another 48 hours to restore normal levels of sodium,” he said, adding, “At this juncture, we can’t disturb the seer.”

On coming to know that the seer had been hospitalised, many of his followers came to the hospital to wish him a speedy recovery. The police had to cordon off the area, officials said. Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu too enquired about the seer’s health and directed the district administration to keep a tab on the situation.
