Mysuru's precious icons: Let's save our heritage
Mysuru, please look at Jaipur, Udaipur for inspiration.
Bengaluru: A day after Karnataka's pride, the heritage city of Mysuru, renowned for its turn of the century buildings saw the Devaraja Market, crumble to dust, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah took a tour, and promised a Rs 9 crore restoration package. Too little, too late?
Experts say that nearly 400 more, are in an equally fragile state. The Lansdowne building was reduced to mere rubble some four years ago and nothing has been done so far to fortify and strengthen other structures. Are we looking at the end of mythic Mysuru?
What Mysuru needs is for one team of experts to be put in charge of conservation and restoration. Not a disinterested IAS or KAS Heritage Commissioner, who has no domain expertise of either archaeology, museums, heritage or tourism!
